Hello from September
Post notes: some news from this month, and a formal (or maybe informal?) introduction
On the notion of a blog (first and foremost) - I’m not sure where this fits in. I could see a benefit for my own purposes of making sure the days don’t run together too much, or that I’m sharing, in what would hopefully be useful or curious in-depth detail, some of the interesting or exciting things that come into the shop. I’m not much for a set schedule and really not one for sticking with things as writing, but as someone who loves a bargain (as my friend Tian would likely put it) I’m paying for this website feature; I might as well use it. No matter how irregular and/or completely unnecessary it may be. Please feel free to carry on having never read any further and not think of it again. Otherwise…
There WERE some very exciting happenings recently. I was kindly given an opportunity to have the guitarists of a favorite band of mine test run one of my guitars. A good friend was visiting for the band’s two nights in Bozeman, and had decided he would take it upon himself to all but put the guitar directly into their hands. As a new builder this opportunity feels practically unheard of and the exceptional circumstances don’t escape me (or my gratitude). On Sunday evening, halfway into the second set, Jake Cinninger switched out for that green tele and proceeded to close the whole set out with it. I am at the time of writing this still in a slight state of shock this actually happened, and have not been able to find the words to describe what an honor this has been.
Maybe this would be a nice time for some full-circle backstory. I’ve been listening to Umphrey’s McGee since 2006; this is a band that has quite literally shaped the course of my life. Through their incredible fan base I have met some of my very best friends, including one who successfully convinced me to pursue luthiery as a trade. It is not at all a stretch to say that because of him (and this band) that Elizabeth Guitar Co. exists. Now that’s full circle. Thanks Berk!
As for the guitar, to both my great fear and delight, this has generated a good bit of interest beyond my immediate circle. It may be why you are reading this now. And so with this new opportunity I thought it may be a nice time to say hello, and to share some gratitude with my newly expanded circle. I am Liz, and I build nice electric guitars with my boyfriend and partner in luthiery, Matt (you can read more about us here). We build them in small batches of 3-4 in our shop in Montana. From start to finish, it’s all done here, just by the two of us. We are so very grateful to be able to do this and to share our guitars with you, in whatever capacity that may be.
You can see specs of the guitar here along with details of my other recent builds.
Really looking forward to sharing more as we keep on building and I hope to be able to make this a somewhat consistent thing. Our gratitude is endless and I have lots to share with you all.
